A Pessimist's Guide to Optimism V

After a month of concentrating on the bad that didn't happen, another month of looking for the good that almost happened, and a third month of secretive optimism, you've finally spent a fourth month smiling more.

You have arrived!

New acquantances don't even notice the struggling devil on your shoulder - but he's still there, and he's got a plan.

The plan? To get you to overshoot your mark, to put on a happy face, to go beyond bubbly - all sugar, no spice, sickly sweet. Can you think of anyone like that? I can. They make me sick. I make me sick when I catch myself on overdrive. Then WHAM! I'm right back with my old pessimist self.

So, go gently. Notice your optimistic accomplishment and soak it in like the sunrise on a cold morning.

Next month, I'll write one last post of optimistic input, and then you'll be good to go!

Nice! Love that image of the devil on your shoulder. Just wish I could get off mine.

Haha, this is great! Optimism is something that requires effort. Pessimism just takes care of things without any help at all. Hooray for Optimism!

I like! We need more optimism in our lives (or, at least I do) ;-)

It's such a short distance from overdrive to smooth sailing. Much better to opt for smooth.

This is such a great series... and so important. It's easy to sink into pessimism when you're a writer, and we simply have to look to each other to build each other up. :)

I totally agree that optimism takes work. But things always seem to go much smoother when I have a good attitude.;)

I'm an optimist and it really kicks in when I'm around a pessimist. I play the devil's advocate.

PESSIMIST: This traffic is horrible!
ME: Aren't you glad you have a car so you can go anywhere you want?
