What's Cool at the Book Store

credit

Book Boxes: not to be confused with a heavy duty cardboard box, nor a set of boxed books like The Chronicles of Narnia.

These are actual boxes made to look like books, or actual books made to act like a box.

The ones on the right are made out of wood, with a hinge like a jewelry box.

I've also seen them made out cardboard, and even glass.

Here's one for the average couch potato who desires to appear more intellectual than a couch potato would otherwise appear.

Here's yet another - a gift for book lovers, but not a book. It's a stationary set...

Sometimes I go to the second hand store to search for old books so I can make my own book box. I found this tutorial a couple of years ago. I'll share it with you because I like to share with you guys, you know?

Do you own any? Have you ever made one out of an old book? Try it. It's fun!

Hi Michelle - those are fun aren't they. I have bought some notelets recently that come in a box like set - they're pretty for the elderly residents, who I though might use the boxes for storage purposes .. and I use the cards to write letters out - yes I do write proper letters too!

I heard a fabulous story about a little boy who was given a book by his uncle - an aged relative! - .. he opened the parcel .. a book - oh well ... and stuck it in the back of his cupboard. Many many years later - when his relatives cleared his house out after his death .. the box was rediscovered ... it was packed with Mars bars!!!!!! Tells a tale ..

Cheers Hilary

I have a cute book drawer given by my mother. It looks great on my bookcase next to the real books. I have always believed you should have a bookcase in every room (except the bathroom, gross)

Hi Michelle,

Although I'm fairly new to your blog site, I have been extremely impressed with its layout, information, presentation and broad spectrum of topic.

In light of this (and I hope you don't mind), I have nominated you for a 'Versatile Blogger Award'.

You can find the details at my blog site:

Kind regards,

Mark

I have a few book boxes. They are great for hiding clutter as well as treasures. I want to make a secret compartment - what fun.

So cute! I'd love to be able to make one using an old book but I'm not really crafty. I'd love to see pictures of the ones you've made!
