Short Story Contests

After many helpful suggestions in the comments of last week's post on where to submit a short story, I met a fellow aspiring author on Twitter who informed me that she is having a short story contest on her blog. Today, Tuesday, is the deadline. Hustle on over there if you'd like a chance to enter.

Then I remembered Cheerios, along with Simon & Schuster, sponsor a short children's story contest every year. It's for aspiring authors who have never been published, and the deadline isn't until July 15th.

Then I Googled short story contest *why I didn't think of this before, I don't know* and came up with these...

Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition (deadline passed, but plan for next year)

Writer's Digest Annual Writing Competition (deadline June 1)

Boston Review Short Story Contest (deadline Oct. 1)

Do you know of any other short story contests?

Oh, and if you haven't had a chance to suggest a blog mascot, click here. We'll take a vote in June!

Hi Michelle .. I wanted to say a very belated THANK YOU for including my blog within your "'enjoyable' new blogs found during the A - Z challenge". Apologies duly expressed in my latest post.

The short story competitions sound interesting .. with a few open for entry. Much luck with your submissions ..

The mascot idea seems such a good one - it's selecting something suitable that's difficult to decide or even find .. I still love that horse!

Cheers and have a good week once your deadlines of today and tomorrow are gone for your entries .. Hilary

Thanks for the links. I don't write short stories, but I know a lot of people love writing and reading them.

I haven't written a short story in so long...these contests are good motivation!

I wish I could write short stories. Mine always turn into full length novels though. Weird! ;)

Thanks for the mention! I ended up with 14 entries. I think that is absolutely amazing for a first contest!

I have two SF short stories that I've always meant to shop around. Thanks for the reminder!
