I think I know why my family has always been partial to flat, metal, bookends - price. It's what we used. It's what the library used. It's what professional offices used. I didn't know any better...
Now I do a double take whenever I see something unique and creative holding up a book. I pause to admire the beauty, the style, and the weight. They're so heavy! Yes, I am easily entertained.
Collecting book ends would be fun, though pricey. But they make a statement. What kind? I'm not sure. It depends. I was browsing through B&N's collection of book ends and found all sorts - shoes, people, animals, hands, toys, furniture, rocks. It was awesome.
What kind of book ends do you use? Here are few to spark your imagination...
Now, to celebrate my 300th post, I am giving away a set of unique book ends to one of my followers. Simply leave a comment on this post naming one of your favorite authors. I'll announce the winner next Tuesday, February 28th. Good luck!

My favorite bookends are beautiful colorful chunks of petrified wood from our ranch. A favorite author...Thomas Hardy!
The Book bookend is cool but I LOVE love love those zebra bookends!! I found awesome zebra bookends at an African store but they were a little too expensive. Some day I'll get them!
I have four Harry Potter bookends that my Nana and Poppop gave me for Christmas one year. One pair is of spellbooks and the sorting hat, and the other pair is Hermione reading a book with her wand out and Harry reading a book. They're really cool!
Happy 300th post, Michelle!! One of my favorite authors is Sharon Creech. :)
Wow! I could so easily get into collecting bookends!
I can see the appeal, but in truth we don't have any bookends.

Congrats on 300 posts!
Love the kitty book ends.
I have an antique set - Abe Lincoln and George Washington copper busts.
Yay, happy 300 post! I actually don't use book ends and don't have a space for them (I live in a small home) so don't worry about entering me in the contest. But the ones you posted pictures of are so cool!
I love fun bookends! I have a set that says Read Books and another that is A and Z. And Harry Potter bookends for my collection of Harry Potter books!
Congrats on your 300th post! I don't really need bookends since I mostly read ebooks now but good luck to everyone who enters. You always have such fun giveaways!
300 posts - rock star. I think you've just gotten me into cool bookends. Author - JRR Tolkien
Oh, I like these bookends. BTW, Michelle, you've been tagged. Please visit my blog for details. I highlighted your blog. Have fun!
Woo on 300 posts! Amazing.
I love those pictures of bookends, the first one has to be my favourite. I just about collect anything and everything, and for some time have wanted to buy more bookends but the price usually stops me. Think it's my next investment.
Hope you're well.
Really love the freshness of your blog. Though I'm going to be sure as to not allow my wife to see this, otherwise I can envisage a massive online shopping spree.
Found you on Claudia's tagged listing, so thought I would 'pop over' and have a look. So glad I did :)
For me, one of my favourite authors is the late David Gemmell, a British heroic fantasy writer who sadly passed away two years ago after suffering an infection post heart surgery. I was very fortunate to have met the man himself and had some correspondence with him. Such a sad loss at the age of fifty.
