Google Reader Folders

When I first started using Google Reader, I found myself wishing I could "star" my favorite blogs - especially when I started following more than 40 to 50 blogs - because it was a pain to look through the entire list trying to remember the name of the one I wanted.

Too bad, I thought.

But on her blog today, Angela Scott mentioned Google Reader folders - organizing certain blogs into certain folders for easier reading. So I did some searching, and will now share with you what I know about Google Reader. Not much, but it may help...

1) When you follow a blog, Blogger keeps track of them on your dashboard. Start there.

2) Click "view in Google Reader"

3) Click "manage subscriptions", lower left of your screen, at the bottom of the list of blogs you follow (Note: if you click "manage" from your dashboard, it will not work. You have to be in Google Reader, as far as I can tell.)

4) Under the subscriptions tab will be a list of the blogs you follow. Click "change folders" on the right of the blog you want to put in a folder.

5) Now you can create a folder or select a folder you've already made. It will show up under the "change folders" button when you're finished.

6) Now click "go back to Google Reader". You may need to refresh the page in order for your new folders to show up.

I am so pleased with this simple, yet happy discovery. See how easy it is to please me? Someone tell my kids how easy it is to please me. What pleases you easily? Maybe short check out lines, an empty dishwasher, kitty hugs, or dryer sheets. Let me know!

Aww Michelle, I've really missed you! I'm pretty easy to please too. A trip to the library is one sure fire way to lift my spirits. And also kisses from my puppy. I'm going to use those tips as I've often wondered how to keep a good list of my fave blogs. :)

Thanks! This is a huge help!!! I never really used Google Reader for that reason, so that makes me give it another chance.

This pleases me, Michelle. I have thought, like you, that there has to be a way to do this. I'm printing this out and will see if I can do it. I tried Google Reader, but I didn't do the trick.

I just sent the galleys of my book to my publisher. I'm exhausted. I just saw your comment on my post. Thanks for cheering me on. this is all really exciting. I just hope my weary brain can keep up with it all, especially Twitter. More and more people are using it, so I hear. Maybe I can get back to it a bit every day now that this galley is off my hands.

Hope you're having a good week!

Hi Michelle,
Thank you so much for sharing this valuable tool ;) I will give it a try. Blogging is not only fun, but one can actually learn so much from fellow bloggers ;)

See, now this is why I read blogs. I've been extremely short on time lately, and I never would've known this if you hadn't posted it. You rock.

I use Google reader and Love It! Except I have lost a few folders from personal blundering, but besides that, it's great!

I'm going to try this because so far Google Reader has not been much use for me. This sounds like it might just work. Little things please me, too.
