Where Are We?

Remember how popular Forks, Oregon became after the release of Twilight? Many of the books we read take place in phony cities, but the real ones are fun to investigate.

So guess...I'll give you clues and you try to figure out which city-from-a-book we're in today.

Population: less than 400

Shopping: Walmart is a thirty minute drive, or 20 miles away.

Recreation: Summit Lake, pictured here, is only ten minutes away, or five miles. You can go boating, camping, fishing and swimming.

Weather: Just your average mid-west weather, but they're in tornado alley, and keep a record of more than twice the state average number of tornadoes. Yikes!

Crime: Below average.

Real estate: You can find a home on a big piece of land for less than 190K - sometimes much less.

Notables: Inventor Wilbur Wright, athlete Vern Huffman, and author Haven Kimmel

Did you recognize the author of A Girl Named Zippy? She grew up in this small town: Mooreland, IN! I've never been there. Have you?

Never been there, but it sounds like a delightful place. Also, never knew that Wilbur Wright was from IN.

It wasn't ringing a bell until I read the name Zippy! Cute book!

I was leaning toward " Where the Heart Is." Not familiar with the book, but any character named Zippy has my attention.

Nope, haven't been - I've waved at IN as we drove by *drats* - one of the three of the 50 I haven't been. But, I read the book; it's delicious.

I'm not familiar with this book, but what a fun post. I hope you will play this game again, very cute idea!

Have a great weekend, Michelle!

I loved reading historical books when I lived in London and spent hours wandering the streets looking for places that were featured in the books.

Mary Gray recommended A Girl Named Zippy. I want to read it. My budget is shot this month. Maybe next month... But thanks, Michelle. This post reminded me of it.
